Japanese food style!
‘You eat with your eyes first’ is taken quite literally in Japan: a meal is usually a colourful feast for the eyes! In *Oishii* (translated as ‘delicious’), Manami Okazaki explores the aesthetics of Japanese cuisine from various angles; she not only interviews world-famous chefs and innovative pastry chefs, but also speaks to Japanese designers and artists (such as Junko Mizuno) who engage with topics such as food packaging or fake plastic sushi. Richly illustrated, she takes us to the ‘Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum’, ‘Mentai Park’ with its fish roe, and colourful food vending machines. A book just like a ‘bento box’ (a typical Japanese lunchbox)!
The publishing house ‘Prestel’ was founded in 1924 by Hermann Loeb in Frankfurt am Main (GER), but traces its origins back to the art dealership ‘F. A. C. Prestel’, which has existed since 1774. Since 2008, the Munich-based (GER) publishing house has been part of the ‘Random House’ publishing group.
