The definitive work by Swiss typographer Adrian Frutiger!
Published in 1978, this book is regarded as the definitive work on sign theory for practical graphic design applications; for example, logo design. It is a must-read for anyone wishing to gain an introductory yet comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of signs and symbols in general, and the development of typefaces in particular!
Adrian Frutiger was born on 24 May 1928 in Unterseen (CH) and is one of the most significant typeface designers of the 20th century. Among his best-known typefaces are the sans-serif ‘Linear-Antiqua Univers’ and ‘Roissy’, designed for Paris’s ‘Charles de Gaulle’ Airport – an early form of ‘Frutiger’ (which adorns all road signs in Switzerland). His ‘OCR-B’, optimised for machine readability, was adopted as an ISO standard in 1973. Adrian Frutiger died on 10 September 2015 in Bremgarten near Bern (CH).
